How much does EV charger installation cost?
EV charger installation costs depend on the distance from your electrical panel to the charging location, whether a panel upgrade is required, and the charger model selected. Do I need a panel upgrade for an EV charger?
If your panel has sufficient capacity (typically 200 amps with available breaker space), a panel upgrade may not be required. However, if your home has a 100-amp panel or a 200-amp panel that is already heavily loaded, an upgrade may be necessary. We assess your panel as part of the consultation and advise you on whether an upgrade is needed. Many homeowners choose to upgrade their panel at the same time as their EV charger installation to accommodate future electrical needs.
What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 charging?
Level 1 charging uses a standard 120V outlet and provides approximately 6-8 km of range per hour. This is too slow for most EV owners who drive more than 50-60 km per day. Level 2 charging uses a 240V circuit and provides 25-50 km of range per hour, fully charging most EVs in 4-8 hours overnight. Level 2 is the standard for home installation and is what we install. Level 3 (DC fast charging) is commercial technology not suitable for home installation.
Which EV charger brand should I choose?
We install chargers from several leading brands including ChargePoint, JuiceBox, Wallbox, and others. The right choice depends on your vehicle, desired features (smart scheduling, energy monitoring, app connectivity), and budget. Most modern EVs work with any SAE J1772-compatible Level 2 charger. We can recommend the best option for your specific situation during the consultation.
Can I install an EV charger in a condo or strata?
EV charger installation in a strata building requires approval from the strata corporation. BC's Strata Property Act gives owners the right to install EV chargers in their own parking stall, but the process requires a formal request and may involve shared electrical infrastructure. We have experience with strata EV charger installations and can advise you on the process and requirements for your building.
