What causes basement flooding in Burnaby homes?

Basement flooding in Burnaby is often caused by heavy rainfall, high groundwater levels, and the area's clay-rich soil that limits natural drainage. Poorly maintained gutters and downspouts, as well as inadequate foundation drainage systems, can also contribute. Understanding these local factors helps homeowners take effective preventive measures.

How can I improve drainage to prevent basement flooding in Burnaby?

Improving drainage involves maintaining gutters and downspouts, installing or upgrading perimeter drains, and ensuring proper grading around your home to direct water away from the foundation. In Burnaby, professional drainage solutions like sump pumps and French drains are effective. Book a Camera Inspection or call 604-343-1985 to assess your drainage system.

Does Burnaby's soil type affect basement flooding risks?

Yes, Burnaby's soil contains a high percentage of clay, which has poor water absorption. This leads to slower drainage and increased water pooling around foundations during heavy rains, raising the risk of basement flooding. Proper drainage systems are essential to manage this local soil challenge.

When is the best time to install drainage solutions in Burnaby?

The ideal time to install drainage solutions in Burnaby is during the drier months, typically late spring through early fall. This timing allows for easier excavation and installation while minimizing disruption. Planning ahead before the rainy season helps protect your basement from flooding.

How do professional drainage contractors in Burnaby assess basement flooding issues?
